Better for farmers, better for families

We buy every vegetable straight from the farm that grew it, at a price agreed before the seed goes in, and get it to your kitchen inside 16 hours. One hop. No agents, no cold-storage limbo, no guessing where your food came from.

Why we started

A bundle of spinach grown an hour outside Bengaluru rarely comes to the city in an hour. It passes through a village aggregator, a commission agent at the mandi, a wholesaler, a semi-wholesaler and finally a retailer — four to six sets of hands, three to seven days on the road, and 30 to 40 percent of the value skimmed off along the way. The greens that reach your kitchen are already most of a week old, and the person who grew them is the only one in that chain who never got to name a price.

That last part is what bothered us most. A farmer decides what to sow months before anyone knows what it will fetch, borrows against the guess, and then discovers the rate on the morning the crop is cut. A good harvest across the district can push prices down to the point where it costs more to transport a load of cabbage than it earns. The risk sits entirely on the one player with the least cash to absorb it.

Pickit collapses that chain to a single hop. We agree a price with our partner farms before planting, so a season can be planned instead of gambled on. Crops are cut to order at first light, graded and ozone-washed the same morning, packed into reusable crates and driven straight to your door — typically within 16 hours of leaving the soil. Farmers are paid within 48 hours of collection, not 30 days later.

We are not romantic about it. Skipping the middle only works if the crate is planned properly, the delivery route is dense enough to stay efficient, and the app is good enough that you can change your mind at 8pm the night before. That is the whole business: remove the margin stack, keep the produce young, and give both ends of the chain something they have never had — certainty.
